Falko Lachmund began his career in 2005 when he shot his first short films as a DP on S16mm and started to take film classes at a private film school. Before applying to study film at university, he worked as an electrician on features, commercials and music videos with gaffers like Matthias Reisser, which gave him the opportunity to study the work of renowned DPs like Frank Lamm or Bernhard Jasper. In 2007, he began studying cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, from where he graduated in 2013. During his studies, he started off as a freelance DP and gaffer for image and commercial films for productions around the globe. He was honoured with the German Cinematography Award in 2014.
