Plura Twins, that are Martina and Monika Plura. They don’t just share the name and the birthday, overall they share their passion to make movies. Martina is a director, Monika is a cinematographer.
The identical twins were born 1985 in Neuwied and started filming with the age of 11. Coming from a small town in the middle of nowhere, they shot over 60 short movies in their youth. They started with horror films, but soon they discovered their love for all kind of genres.
After finishing school they worked on film sets in Germany for cinema and television. From 2007-2012 Martina studied „Media Arts“ at the “academy of media and arts in Cologne". Meanwhile in 2011, she spent an exchange year at the „Escuela Internacional de Ciné y Television“ in Cuba. Monika studied Film at the „University of Fine Arts of Hamburg” from 2008-2012. 2012 they went together back to Cuba to shoot „Cuba Libre“, a feature-length documentary about the underground music in Havanna.
From 2012 – 2014 Monika made her Master in Cinematography at the “Hamburg Media School”. Martina studied as well at the „Hamburg Media School“, she did her Master in Directing. During their studies they shot several short movies, commercials and documentaries as cinematographer / director, which won a lot of prizes at national and international film festivals. They shot in Cuba, Thailand, Morocco and the Dominican Republic. Besides this they worked as teachers holding filmworkshops for children and teenager.
In 2011 Monika & Martina received the scholarship of Johanna Loewenherz Foundation for their artistic and pedagogic work in filmaking. In April/May 2015 they shot their first feature Vorstadtrocker (90 min.) a crime-comedy for German TV, that had it’s premiere at the Filmfest Hamburg. Martina was the director and Monika the Director of Photography. They both work as freelancers in fiction, documentary and commercials.
